Cedric L. Hutchens, 97, of Richmond, passed away on Thursday, January 4.
   He was born in Carlos, Indiana on June 15, 1920 to Irvin C. and Florence M. Thompson Hutchens. He served in the US Army during World War II and participated in the campaigns to liberate the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe.
   Cedric worked at Crosley after the war. He was formerly a mechanic at Farm Bureau and later was a sharecropper before moving into custom farming. He later was a truck driver for Dick Hill & Sons until retirement. He enjoyed deer hunting in Wisconsin, riding his motorcycle and doing mechanical work for himself, his family and his friends.
   Cedric will be missed by his daughter, Mary Jo VanWinkle; daughter-in-law, Naomi Larose; grandchildren, Rob Hutchens and his wife Bonnie, both of whom provided for his care; Christina Wright and Donna Morefield; great-grandchildren, Ashley Hutchens, Chelsea Voisin, Robbie Hutchens, Carissa Wright, Hayley Wright, Dylan Morefield, Cody Morefield and Jesse Morefield; great-great-grandchildren, Riley, Maelyn, Madison, Brooklyn, Leads and Cecilia.
   Cedric was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 69 years, Ruth L. Hutchens; son, Donald Gene Hutchens; three sisters and two brothers.
   Steve Mathews will celebrate Cedric’s life at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 7 at the Smith-McQuiston & Webster Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment with military rites will follow in Willow Grove Cemetery.
   Family and friends may gather from 1-2 p.m. on Sunday, January 7, at the funeral home.
