H. Aldan Newman, 81, of Fountain City, passed away peacefully in his sleep in the comfort of his home on Thursday, November 13. Aldan was born on November 28, 1943, in Richmond, Indiana, the son of Herschel Vincent & Janice Kathryn Marting Newman. He was a 1962 graduate of Fountain City High School and remained active with his friends and classmates through the Fountain City Alumni Association.
Aldan was an employee of Rodefeld’s when he was drafted into the US Army. He served a tour of duty in Vietnam prior to his Honorable Discharge. He returned home to his job at Rodefeld’s, where he was a manager for many years. When he retired in 2005, he was working in outside sales. Aldan also farmed with his family until he had to limit his activity, then he remained close by to supervise. Aldan enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s activities and spending time boating and water skiing at Dale Hollow Lake for many years. He formerly raced stock cars on local tracks as well as surrounding states. Aldan loved sports of all kinds and liked to watch and listen to NASCAR and basketball. More often than not, during the activities just mentioned, Aldan could be seen enjoying a good cigar.
Aldan will be missed by his wife of 61 years, Linda L. Cope Newman, who he married in August 9, 1964; son, David Newman & wife, Linda; daughter, Jennifer Moore; grandchildren, Dylan Newman & wife, Katie, Dayna Newman, Amelia Moore, Alaina Moore, Ashley Allen, Zeth Ellis and Shannon Moores; great-grandchildren, Hudson, Noah, Ashtyn, Taytum, Mason and another one due any day; brothers, Jim Newman, Brian Newman, Troy Newman; sisters, Bonnie Johnston & husband, Barry, Becky Davis – who helped to care for Aldan - & husband, Lloyd; special friends and extended family, Donnie Cope, Jeremy Reynolds, Alex Reynolds, Jackie Dingwerth, Todd Dingwerth, Shaun Dingwerth and many more in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Aldan was preceded in death by his parents and a great-grandson, Myles Paul Crowe.
Visitation for Aldan will be from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 18, at the Smith-McQuiston & Webster Funeral Home, 321 South US 27, Fountain City.
Services will begin at 7:00 p.m. immediately following visitation.
