Aletha E. Cook

May 7, 1982 — April 1, 2025

Aletha E. Cook, 42, passed away at Reid Health on Tuesday afternoon, April 1.

Aletha was born in Richmond, Indiana on May 7, 1982 to Jon & June Stamper Jeffries. Aletha was raised outside Williamsburg and was a 2000 graduate of Northeastern High School, where she was a member of the Varsity Softball Team. She worked as a lab tech while she attended IVY Tech to study Physical Therapy. She enjoyed her career as a Physical Therapy Assistant. She married Josh Cook on April 8, 2011. They were blessed with a daughter, Zella, and son, Eli.

Aletha was a faithful member of Spartanburg Christian Church. Her family and friends were always part of the things she enjoyed most. She was always there in support of her kid’s softball and archery activities. She loved being outdoors doing anything, riding side-by-sides, gathering at bonfires. She visited many state and national parks during her lifetime and grew to enjoy hunting, especially prairie dogs. To say that Aletha loved to shop is an understatement. She didn’t care if it was an online store or brick & mortar, she was always ready to make some new purchases.

Aletha will be missed by her husband of 14 years, Josh Cook; daughter, Zella Cook; son, Eli Cook; parents, Jon & June Jeffries; sister, April Handley & husband, Jeremy; brother, Joe Jeffries & wife, Patty; paternal grandmother, Bernetta Jeffries; nephews, Cody, Colton (Sydney), Jarrett, Bryce, Trenton and David; GREAT-nephew, Colson Handley; mother-in-law, Diane Ogden & husband, Owen; father-in-law, Kenny Cook & wife, Candi. And several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Aletha was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, David “Jeff” Jeffries; and maternal grandparents, Clarence & Louise Stamper.

Pastor Brian Richmond will celebrate Aletha’s life at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 6 at the Spartanburg Christian Church, 6714 East 700 South in Spartanburg.

Family and friends may gather from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, April 6, at the church.

Memorial contributions are encouraged for either the Girls Softball program or the Archery program of Northeastern Wayne School Corp., 7295 North US 27, Fountain City, IN 47341 or Cancer Services of Randolph County, 133 North Meridian Street, Winchester, IN 47394.
