Betty Crowe, 81, formerly of the Williamsburg area, passed away Sunday, August 12 in Palm Springs, California, where she had lived since 2006.
   She was born on January 24, 1931 in Greenville, Ohio to Avery, Sr. and Edith Paxton Maiden. She married Daniel Crowe on November 15, 1951. They raised 5 children and shared 47 years working together on their farm until his death on September 14, 1998.
   She enjoyed reading and would read as many as 2 books per day. She also enjoyed discussing current events and caring for her 2 dogs, who she treated like children.
   Mrs. Crowe is survived by 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce & David Bryant, of Fountain City and Molly & Terry Wilmoth, of Webster; 3 sons, David Crowe, of Greens Fork; Lloyd Crowe and his wife, Patty, of Fountain City; and Alvin Crowe, of Palm Springs, CA; 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, Pearl Meyers, of Richmond and Freda Veach, of North Carolina; 3 brothers, Jack Maiden, of Greenville, OH; Jimmy Maiden, of California; and Tommy Maiden, of California; sister-in-law, Julia Downs, of Richmond; and several nieces and nephews.
   Mrs. Crowe was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Dorothy and Ruth and brothers Avery, Jr., Douglas, Joseph and Billy.
   Family and friends may gather for visitation from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, August 18, at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will be conducted later in Crown Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
