Mrs. Betty E. Moody, 87, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, September 24, 2009.


Mrs. Moody was born June 27, 1922 in Randolph County, Indiana to Robert Leilon and Marjorie R. Brooks McIntire. She was a 1940 graduate of Fountain City High School and attended Richmond Business College. She married Robert Overman "Bob" Moody on May 16, 1942. They raised 3 daughters and spent 64 years together before his death on April 18, 2007.


Mrs. Moody worked as a bookkeeper for many years at the former Conniff's Shoes and later at the former V.H. Juerling & Sons. She was also a homemaker and a faithful member of Fountain City Wesleyan Church. She was a member of the Fountain City Chapter of the Model A Restorers Club for 36 years and a longtime member and Past Matron of Chapter #552, Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed the winters she spent in Bradenton, Florida, sewing, and playing Bridge. She was a member of the Gleaners Homemakers and was a fan of Jeff Gordon.


Mrs. Moody will be missed by her daughters and sons-in-law, Marjorie and Richard Benner, Marilyn and Robert Barth, and Marsha and Darrel Shepherd, all of Fountain City; 7 grandchildren, Anthony Benner, Tim Benner, Brian Benner, Wendy Eldridge, Brandon Wittwer, Jeff Shepherd and Ben Shepherd; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Phyllis Williams, of Fountain City and several nieces and nephews.


Mrs. Moody was preceded in death by her parents, husband, granddaughter, Deanna Lee Shepherd, on December 15, 1988; and 1 brother, Leilon "Mac" McIntire.


A funeral ceremony will be conducted by Pastor Greg Boyce at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 28 at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Willow Grove Cemetery.


Family and friends may gather for visitation from 3-6 p.m. on Sunday, September 27, at the funeral home.


An Order of Eastern Star memorial ceremony will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 27, at the funeral home.
