Billy Edwards

Billy R. Edwards, 80, of Lynn, passed away on Wednesday, January 7 at Reid Health.

Billy was born in Kingsport, Tennessee on June 25, 1945, the son of Ross & Nellie Grace Galloway Edwards.

Billy was a US Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, serving aboard the USS Princeton and later the USS Kitty Hawk. He formerly worked as a registered nurse and later worked for many years for the Wayne County Highway Department. He retired from HBR in Richmond. He also was a professional painter and bricklayer. He enjoyed gardening and loved to fish and go coon hunting. He formerly raised registered coon dogs and was a member of the Wayne County Conservation Club.

Billy will be missed by his wife of 26 years, Marcia Edwards, whom he married on May 21, 1999; daughters, Susan Jay & husband, Doug, Ella Lee & husband, Cliff, and Venus Carney & husband, Dorvin; son, Billy Edwards & wife, Lovina; 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, with 1 more on the way; brothers, Sam Edwards and James Edwards; and several nieces & nephews.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Sally Jean, Judy and Sue Ella; and brothers, Kenneth Edwards and Jimmy Wayne Edwards.

Family and friends may gather from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 12, at the Smith-McQuiston & Webster Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City.

Billy’s life will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 12 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Webster Cemetery.
