   Billy Mack Newton, age 74, passed away on Saturday, April 17, in the comfort of his home with his family and loved ones at his side.

   He was born in Rector, Arkansas, on August 4, 1946, the son of Woodrow Wilson & Thelia Faye Ozbun Newton.

   Bill attended Fountain City High School. He married the former Phyllis Jean Penny on April 7, 1964. Their union was blessed with four children. Bill was a carpet installer for most of his adult life. He lived in Satsuma, Alabama from 2006 until returning to Indiana in 2018. He attended the Church of Christ. Bill loved to help others. He was everybody’s go to person when something needed fixed.  He never met stranger and talked to everyone he met like he was their friend. He loved gardening. He loved to fish, loved the ocean and beach in Alabama and had recently made one more trip south to enjoy being at the Gulf.

   Bill loved his family and will be missed by his wife of 57 years, Phyllis Newton; son & daughter-in-law, William & Vickie Newton; daughters, Kim Petitt & husband, Duane; Laura Adams & husband, Max; and Rebecca Ward; 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; brothers, Darrell Newton & wife, Loretta; Buster Newton & wife, Debbie; Thomas Newton; sisters, Shelby Ray, Norma Hyre and Anna May Anderson & husband, Bill; several nieces & nephews.

   Bill was preceded in death by his parents, brothers James Newton and Robert Newton; sister, Virginia Dowdy.

   Public visitation for Bill will be from 5-7 pm on Thursday, April 22, at the Smith-McQuiston & Webster Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. A Celebration of Bill’s life will begin immediately following the visitation.  

   Bill’s family is very appreciative of the care he received from the staff and nurses of the Reid Health Hospice team and ask that memorial contributions be directed to Reid Hospice, 1100 Reid Parkway, Richmond, IN 47374.
