Bob Ketron

Robert William "Bob" Ketron, Sr., 77, passed away Monday, June 22, at Reid Hospital.


Born January 2, 1932 on Wallace Road, he was the son of P. Benton and Nannie E. Powell Ketron. Bob graduated Whitewater High School in 1950 and went to work at Johns-Manville. He served in the US Navy from April 1951 to April 1955. He married the former Janet "Jane" Linde in Massachusetts on April 9, 1955 before returning home to Indiana.


Mr. Ketron retired from Johns-Manville after 41 years of service. He was a member of the Whitewater Christian Church; Past Master of Whitewater Masonic Lodge #159; and a member of Chapter #552, Order of Eastern Star. In retirement, he stayed busy going to auctions, hunting, riding his tractor, piddling around his home and watching golf. He also worked part-time driving for Safeway and Covenant Auto Sales.


Mr. Ketron will be missed by his wife of 54 years, Jane; his daughter, Kim Lacey, Richmond; 3 sons, Robert William "Bill" Ketron, Jr., Sweetwater, TN; Kevin Ketron and his wife, Lynn, Utica, NY; and David Ketron, Richmond; 9 grandchildren, Craig Ketron, Kayla Ketron, Benton Ketron, Katherine Ketron, Kami Ketron, Kourtney Ketron, Kristian Ketron, Dustin Lacey, Zachary Lacey; 4 great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Ketron, Kelley Ketron, Kain Ketron and Trinity Rae; 3 step-grandchildren, Cher, Michael and Gregory; 1 sister, Carol Williams and her husband, Les, Whitewater; and several nieces and nephews.


Mr. Ketron was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister, Ruby Thompson and 2 brothers, Frank and Walter Ketron.


A funeral ceremony will be conducted by Rev. Max Knight at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 26, at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Whitewater Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Wayne County Honor Guard.


Family and friends may gather for visitation at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 25. A Masonic memorial ceremony will be conducted at 7:45 p.m.
