He also played in the Ray Emperial Band on Saturdays. Bob gave up a music scholarship to college to take over his dad’s farm. He was a 1948 graduate of Whitewater High School and married the former Edna O. Doston on July 3, 1949. Their union spanned 57 years and was blessed with 3 daughters and 2 sons, which they raised together on their dairy farm near Whitewater.

He also served 56½ years as the team scorekeeper at basketball games at home and on the road without missing a game. Bob was a big help to the band program when their annual musicals were presented.
Bob was always active in the community and school. He served on the advisory board during the building of Northeastern High School and had served on the Franklin Township Advisory Board. He was an avid card player at the Richmond and Fountain City Senior Centers.
Bob enjoyed holding court daily at The Family Diner morning liar’s table and afternoon culture club and going to auctions. In 2007, he was the first recipient of the "ONE Great Community Salutes" award from the Richmond-Wayne County Chamber of Commerce.
Bob was a devoted husband who for years spent his days and nights caring for Edna during her long illness, enabling her to live at home until her death on March 9, 2007.
Bob will be missed by his daughters, Connie Jones and her husband, Lee, of Fort Myers, Florida; Cathy Showalter and her husband, David, of Fountain City; sons, Robert J.
