Bud Woodruff

Elmer I. "Bud" Woodruff, 76, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 21, at Reid Hospital.


Bud was born May 23, 1933 on the farm on Wallace Road to Charles Elmer and Pearl Edna Thompson Woodruff. Bud graduated from Fountain City High School in 1951 and served in the U.S. Army from 1953-55. He married the former Lois Jean Christian on July 19, 1953. They raised 4 children and shared 56 years together.


Bud formerly worked for Dunham Lear, NATCO, AVCO and Moto-Mower. He farmed most of his life and built and campaigned pulling tractors around the country. He was a member of the Faith-Trinity United Methodist Church in Richmond, member and former board member of the Richmond Conservation Club, the National Radio-Controlled Truck Pulling Association and the National Rifle Association.


Bud will be missed by his wife, Lois; daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Mike Frame, Fountain City; sons and daughter-in-law, Gary and Joan Woodruff and Mark and Theresa Woodruff, all of Fountain City; son-in-law, Mike Sanders, Fountain City; 10 grandchildren, Ethan Woodruff, Aaron Woodruff, Elaine Smith, Steven Frame, Stephanie Frame, Cody Woodruff, Courtney Woodruff, Justin Sanders, Jason Sanders and Shawna Neer; and 12 great-grandchildren.


Bud was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Sharon Sanders and sister, Mary Frances Thompson.


A funeral ceremony will be conducted by Rev. Alan Henderson at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 26, at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Willow Grove Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Wayne County Honor Guard.


Family and friends may gather for visitation from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, August 25, at the funeral home.
