Charlene McQuiston

October 26, 1928 — October 27, 2009

Mrs. Charlene Mae Kramer McQuiston, loving wife, mother and grandmother, 81, went home peacefully to the "City not made with hands" on October 27, 2009.


She was born October 26, 1928 in Uhland, Texas to Charles and Emily Elbel Kramer. She was a 1947 graduate of New Braunfels High School in New Braunfels, Texas. In her early adulthood she moved to San Antonio, Texas, where she was a civil service worker in the finance office of Fort Sam Houston. While attending First Baptist Church of San Antonio she met a soldier named Clare McQuiston. They married in the First Baptist Church of New Braunfels on May 18, 1952 and have resided in Richmond since December 1952.


Mrs. McQuiston was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church for over 50 years and taught Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed going to Bible Study. She also enjoyed sewing and traveling.


Mrs. McQuiston is survived by her husband of 57 years, Clare McQuiston, of Richmond; her children, Janette Cason, of Waco, Texas; Douglas (Colleen) McQuiston, of Lake Wiley, South Carolina; Judith (William) Testin, of Indianapolis; Gregory (Birgit) McQuiston, of Lake Orion, Michigan; and Joanne (Patrick) McCree, of Normal, Illinois; 13 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and 2 brothers, Leonard Kramer, of New Braunfels, Texas; and her twin, Charles Kramer, of Edmond, Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews.


Mrs. McQuiston was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, Leslie Kramer and Roland Kramer, and a son-in-law, Randall Cason.


A funeral ceremony will be conducted by David McQuiston at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, November 2, at the First Baptist Church of Richmond, 1601 South A Street, Richmond. Interment will follow in Willow Grove Cemetery in Fountain City.


Family and friends may gather for visitation from 3-7 P.M. on Sunday, November 1, at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City.
