Charles A. “C.A.†Wills, 91, went to his Heavenly home on Saturday, March 17, 2018.
C.A. was born in Webster on September 20, 1926 to William and Dora M. Rigdon Wills. He graduated from Webster High School in 1946.
C.A. worked for Crosley and the C&O Railroad prior to entering the US Army, where he served in Co. C, 501st Airborne Medical Battalion until 1952. After his service, he came home to work for the Wayne County Highway Dept., Luken Drugs, F&N Lawnmower, Queen City Supply, Andy Tutterrow, Lloyd Himelick, Joe Peters’ Slaughterhouse, Kroger, A&P, Bartel & Rohe and Morgan Office Supply and Area 9 Council on Aging.
C.A. was affectionately known as the Honorary Mayor of Webster, where he was a lifelong resident. He was a faithful member of the Webster United Methodist Church, serving in any capacity needed over the years. He was a charter member of and later retired from the Webster Volunteer Fire Dept and served on the Webster Cemetery board. He was a volunteer at Reid Health, where he sometimes filled in as a chaplain. He was Worshipful Master of Williamsburg Masonic Lodge #493 in 1968; a board member of the Richmond Conservation Club; a member of the International Order of Odd Fellows and a member of American Legion Post 65 for 58 years.
C.A. will be missed by his wife of 41 years, the former Ruth Lawrence Wills, whom he married on December 10, 1976; daughters & sons-in-law, Becky & Russ Brown, Diana & Kenny Burns, Tammy & Bryan Spears; his special neighbor, Cindy Farmer; eight grandchildren, Stacy Huffman, Michelle Lozano, Amy Smith, Patrick Brown, Amber Reece, Todd Burns, Christopher Burns and Brooke Brown; and 16 great-grandchildren.
C.A. was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Lou Wills.
C.A.’s life will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 21, at the Webster United Methodist Church, 3195 Webster Road in Webster, with Pastor Bill Remley officiating. Interment will follow in Webster Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20, at the Smith-McQuiston & Webster Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Masonic Rites will be delivered at 7:00 p.m.
