Charles R. “Chuck” Spurrier, 99, of Richmond, passed away early on Wednesday, March 1, at Reid Health.
   He was born in Jonesville, Virginia on November 30, 1917 to Enos Bird and Rebecca Jane Ely Spurrier. He had lived in Wayne County since 1943. He farmed in the Fountain City area and was a tool maker at Alcoa, retiring in 1981. He enjoyed raising his horses and tending his vegetable gardens. He was a member of Whitewater Masonic Lodge #159 and Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Indianapolis. For 27 years, he and his wife, Mary Jayne, enjoyed spending the winter months at their home in Sebring, Florida.
   Mr. Spurrier will be missed by his wife of 48 years, the former Mary Jayne Griffith, who he married on June 29, 1968; his children, Chuck (Judy) Spurrier, Becky (Steve Moore) Wogoman, Brenda (Chuck) Feaster, Ron (Sherry) Spurrier; Mary Jane’s children, Terry (Lynn) Hastings, Carolyn (Marvin) Himelick, Nancy Geier, 24 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces & nephews.
   Mr. Spurrier was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Scott Feaster; son-in-law, Danny Wogoman, three sisters and seven brothers.
   Pastor David Anderson will conduct a funeral ceremony at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 4 at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US Hwy 27, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Earlham Cemetery.
   Family and friends may gather from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, March 3, at the funeral home. Whitewater Lodge #159 will deliver Masonic Rites at 7:00 p.m.
