Dale Peters

May 12, 1923 — September 25, 2008

Mr. Dale R. Peters, 85, formerly of the Lynn community, passed away Thursday, September 25, at Golden Living Center Oak Ridge in Richmond.


Born May 12, 1923 in Greenville, Ohio, he was the son of Frank L. and Edna Fox Peters. He was a 1941 graduate of Fountain City High School and later that year married the former Elizabeth Myers on December 25. He entered the US Army in January 1943, serving in the Pacific Theatre during World War Two before his honorable discharge in January 1946. He returned home to farm. He also worked for the Farm Bureau and later was a deliveryman for Meadow Gold Dairy. He served 15 years as a Teamsters Union representative before his retirement. He was a member of the Arba Friends Church, American Legion Post 274 in Lynn and was formerly a Civil Defense volunteer. He enjoyed watching cowboy movies.


Mr. Peters will be missed by his wife, Elizabeth, of Richmond; 1 daughter, Sandra Skinner, Richmond; 3 sons, Joe Peters, Monterey, Kentucky; Tom Peters, Palmyra, Wisconsin and Gary Peters, Richmond; granddaughters Kelly, Jo Carole, Sara, Becky, Elizabeth; step-grandsons Larry and Lance; great-grandchildren Madison, Trace, Laken, Reid, Conner, Laura, Nathan, Dallas, Alex, Lucas, Landon and 1 soon to be born; step-grandchild, Shelby; 2 brothers, Keith Peters, Lynn and Glen Peters, Winchester.


Mr. Peters was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother who died in infancy.


A funeral ceremony will be conducted by Pastor Tom Ward at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 29, at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment with full military rites will follow in Spartanburg Cemetery.


Family and friends may gather for visitation from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, September 28, at the funeral home.
