David L. Himelick

David L. Himelick, 75, passed away Sunday, November 15 at Rose Gate Village in Richmond.


Dave was born December 2, 1933 on the family Homestead farm north of Fountain City to Lloyd E. and Reba A. Snyder Himelick, both of whom preceded him in death. He lived in the Fountain City area all of his life and was a 1951 graduate of Fountain City High School, where he played on the storied 1949 basketball team.


Dave farmed for 20 years and was co-owner for 55 years of Himelick Construction, which built many of the homes in and around Fountain City and was awarded the contract to restore the Levi Coffin House. He owned the former Newport Hardware on Fountain City's Main Street. He served the community as a former member and president of the Fountain City town board and town clerk. He was a lifetime member and former chief of the Fountain City Fire Department, the second of four generations to have served in the department, serving as chief a total of 10 of his 56 years. In 2003, he received his Indiana Volunteer Firefighters Association 50-year Gold Card. He was a member of the Levi Coffin House Association and the Fountain City Businessmen's Association. He was a member of the Fountain City United Methodist Church and enjoyed fishing and canoeing when better health permitted.


Dave will be missed by his wife, Alice Louise Lone Himelick; daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Paul Parker, Louisville, Kentucky; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Evelyn Himelick, Fountain City; brothers, Bill Himelick, Brookville, Ohio and Max Himelick, Chesapeake, Virginia; grandchildren, Aric Griffin, Phillip Himelick, Meggan Blackburn and Mark Himelick; great-grandchildren, Zoe, Declan and Gavin Griffin.


A funeral ceremony will be conducted by Rev. Bill Parrish at 10:00 am on Wednesday, November 18, at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 South US 27, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Willow Grove Cemetery.


Family and friends may gather for visitation from 4-7 pm on Tuesday, November 17, at the funeral home.
