Dennis Weinstiger, 68, passed away at Ambassador Healthcare in Centerville on Sunday, April 13.
He was born in Dayton, Ohio on May 30, 1956, to Charles Lee Weinstiger & Shirley Ann George Weinstiger. Dennis was a graduate of Preble Shawnee High School in Camden, Ohio.
Dennis was a hard-working man and a devoted father. He worked as a stocker at Wal-Mart in Richmond for over 20 years. During the summer months, he would also work a second job as a security guard at Americana Amusement Park. He spent many weekends traveling the region, making memories with his son visiting a multitude of attractions. Prior to retirement, he was a security guard at Frank Miller Lumber Co. in Union City.
Dennis was an avid movie buff. He brought a favorite character, Willy Wonka, to life many times over the years as he entertained children at parades and special events. He also dressed as Santa Claus at Christmas and the Easter Bunny during egg hunts, as well as multiple cartoon and fantasy characters. He was proud of his extensive collection of celebrity autographs. Dennis loved his grandchildren and enjoyed the opportunity to connect and spend time.
Dennis will be missed by his son & daughter-in-law, Thomas & Theresa Weinstiger; grandchildren, Olivia Weinstiger, Owen Parker and Ethan Weinstiger; his longtime partner, Shirley Melton; half-sisters, Lisa, Peggy and Debbie; half-brothers, Chuck and Timmy, and nieces & nephews. He will also be missed by Shirley’s grandchildren, Payton and Hunter Melton, with whom he shared a special bond.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; special maternal grandparents, Louis and Gertrude George; brothers, Billy Weinsteiger and Louie Weinstiger; and half-brother, Hank Weinsteiger.
Dennis’ life will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 18 at the Smith-McQuiston & Webster Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Friends & family may stay and visit until 4:00 p.m.
