Doris J. Lucas

Mrs. Doris J. Lucas, 73, of Richmond, passed away at Methodist Hospital on Thursday, January 31, 2008.


She was born in Richmond on June 29, 1934, to Harry Martin and Sarah Lucille Huffman Brown. She was a 1952 graduate of Webster High School. She was united in marriage to Claude H. "Buck" Lucas on March 11, 1960. Doris was formerly employed in the office at Belden for several years before she began helping her husband operate Buck's Auto Service. She was presently employed by Wal-Mart in Richmond. In her younger years she enjoyed bowling and attending the WIBC Nationals with her friends. She was also active with 4-Hers and the Wayne County Horse & Pony Association.


Mrs. Lucas will be missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Ed Shaw, Williamsburg; step-son & daughter-in-law, Tom and Sue Lucas, Hagerstown; step-daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Mark Ertel, Winchester, Debbie and Johnny Griner, Arizona, and Karen and Steve Hermanson, Fishers; 1 grandson, Willie Shaw and his fiance', Alishia Pipenger; 1 great-granddaughter, Brianna Shaw; 10 step-grandchildren, several step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews including Lora Lilly and her husband, David, and Maggie Eley and her husband, Dennis; her dog, Milo and her Wal-Mart family.


Mrs. Lucas was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Claude "Buck" Lucas, on October 20, 2003; a sister, Wilma Underwood and two brothers, Elvin and Lowell Brown.


A funeral ceremony will be conducted by Elder Brian Ballenger at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 4, at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Goshen Cemetery.


Family and friends may gather for visitation from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, February 3, at the funeral home.
