Doris June Burgess, of Whitewater, passed away on October 26, 2012 at her home in Whitewater. She had been in ill health for several years.  
   She was born on May 27, 1923 in Sunbury, Ohio, to Raymond David and Maryam (Woods) Graves. Her mother died in childbirth, and her father died two years later of typhoid.  From the age of just 2 days, June was raised by her maternal grandmother, Ethel (Thomas) Woods.  Having graduated from Whitewater High School in 1941, June attended Reid Memorial Hospital’s School of Nursing and became a registered nurse.   She married her high school sweetheart, Joseph A. Burgess, in 1945, after he served in the South Pacific with the United States Marine Corps during World War II. They had been married 67 years when he died last month.
   June has been a faithful member of three area churches: the Whitewater Christian Church, the Whitewater United Methodist Church and the Fountain City Wesleyan Church.   She worked part time in the newborn nursery at Reid Memorial Hospital.  She was a good seamstress, cook, gardener and supporter of 4-H and extension activities.
   June will be missed by her sons, David (Roxy), and Anthony (Vikki); her son-in-law Mike Roll;  7 grandchildren: Jeff (Shawnna) Roll, Jeremy (Staci) Roll, Joseph (Sherry) Burgess, Sarah (Dirk) Van Essendelft, Robert (Susie) Burgess, John Burgess, and Stephen Roll;  8 great grandchildren: Rachel, Michael and Emily Burgess,  Brandon, Eli,  Alli,  JJ and Alaina Roll; other family members and friends.   She was not only preceded in death by her husband, but also by their daughter, Debra Roll in 1999.
   Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 31 in the Fountain City Wesleyan Church, 5600 US 27 North, Richmond. Burial will be in the Whitewater Cemetery, just two blocks from the house where she lived her entire life.
   Friends and family may call from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 30, at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City.
   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fountain City Wesleyan Church High School Youth Department.
