Dorothy Smith

Mrs. Dorothy P. Smith, 89, of Cincinnati, Ohio, formerly of Fountain City, passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at Hospice of Hamilton in Hamilton, Ohio.


She was born January 2, 1920 in Russell County, Kentucky to Walter H. and Nona Elizabeth Murphy Richards. She married Walter A. Smith on February 5, 1941. This union was blessed with 5 children and spanned 66 years before Walt's death on June 8, 2007. She was a faithful member of Whitewater Christian Church and the Ladies Aide Society.


Mrs. Smith worked many years as a seamstress and was retired from Nettle Creek Industries. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed doing crocheting and needlework. She enjoyed fishing, watching Andy Griffith, playing Euchre and other card games and taking trips with her girls.


Mrs. Smith will be missed by her daughters, Charlotte Ferguson, of Cincinnati, Ohio and Cynthia Robison, of Hamilton, Ohio; sons, Charles and Dennis Smith, both of Whitewater and Dick Smith, of Terre Haute; 14 grandchildren, Daryl, Dirk, Eric, Jerry, Rodney, Jeff, John, Julie, Danny Joe, Mark, Brian, Stephen, Bernadette and Rob; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.


Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter Smith, sister, Lucia Drucker and brother, Liston Richards.


Rev. Larry Girdwood will conduct a funeral ceremony at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 21, at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 South US 27, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Willow Grove Cemetery.


Family and friends may gather for visitation from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, November 21, at the funeral home.
