Irene Jennings

August 30, 1908 — April 25, 2008

After a brief illness, Irene V. Jennings died Friday night, April 25, 2008 at the United Methodist Home in Warren, Indiana, where she had resided for the last 6 years.

She was born August 30, 1908 to Harry and Inez Jordan Wright, and had lived most of her active 99 years near Whitewater. She had been looking forward to her 100th birthday celebration in 4 months.

On June 29, 1945, she married Guy E. Jennings, who died in 2002. She delighted in their two sons and was a devoted wife and mother.

As a young girl Irene loved being outside on the farm with her father and her cats. She graduated from Whitewater High School in 1925, where she played on their first all-girls basketball team. After high school she worked 20 years at Nicholson Printing. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting and gardening. Irene had a strong faith and was a life-long member of the Whitewater United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and played piano for many years. She took great interest in other people's lives and had a quick sense of humor. Everyone recognized her as a special lady, who was always cheerful, very giving and never complaining.

She will be greatly missed by her sons and their wives, Val Jay and Judy Jennings, of Richmond, and Von and Katherine Jennings, of Clarksville, Maryland, 2 grandsons, Conor and Brett Jennings of Clarksville, a step-granddaughter, Beth Slattery of Richmond, and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Guy, sister Thelma Jennings and Thelma's husband Don Jennings (Guy's brother), and her brother Warren Wright.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 28, 2008, at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Burial will be in Goshen Cemetery.

Friends and family may call at the funeral home Monday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
