Mr. James E. Davis, 76, passed away at 3:30 a.m. on Monday, September 24, at Reid Hospital.
Born March 20, 1931 in Bryson City, North Carolina, he was the son of William James and Nola Orr Davis. Mr. Davis lived in the Fountain City community 28 years. He retired from the former ALCOA in Richmond in 1993 after 30 years of service. He was an avid HAM radio and CB enthusiast, taking to the airwaves as KB9QIZ and "Diamond Jim". He enjoyed watching NASCAR and was a fan of the late Dale Earnhardt. He also spent time fishing and whittling.
Mr. Davis will be missed by his wife, the former Juanita Abbott, 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Cathie and Fred Balbo, of Richmond; Penny and Brian Christman, of Vevay and Kim and David Frame, of Roanoke, VA; 1 son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Kathy Davis, of Roanoke, VA; 1 son-in-law, Tim Walton and his friend, Ellie; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; a sister, Novella Orr, of Tennessee; 2 brothers, Harold Davis, of Franklin, Tennessee and Paul Davis, of Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Mae Goodwin and Pearl Sparks; and 1 brother, Howard Davis.
A graveside ceremony was conducted by Brian Christman at 12:00 noon on Thursday, September 27, at Willow Grove Cemetery in Fountain City.
