Janet Bowmer

July 15, 1923 — April 8, 2009

Mrs. Janet Bowmer, 85, formerly of Williamsburg, went to be with the Lord at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at Golden Living Center Golden Rule in Richmond.


She was born July 15, 1923 in Dublin, Indiana to Raymond and Bernice (Fricker) Hunnicutt, both of whom preceded her in death. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1941 and married Richard E. "Gene" Bowmer in 1943. Mrs. Bowmer was a homemaker and a 50-year member of Williamsburg Friends Church. She was a former volunteer and board member of Widowed Persons Service and was formerly active with Area 9 Council on Aging. When better health permitted, she enjoyed working in her yard.


Mrs. Bowmer will be missed by her daughters, Dianne Chandler and Jeri Toschlog, both of Richmond, and Barbara (Gary) Place, of Franklin, Tennessee; her son, Larry (Sue) Bowmer, of Greenfield; 8 grandchildren, Larry Gene (Mary) Bowmer, Jr., Rob Bowmer, Jeff (Jennifer) Chandler, David (Julie) Toschlog, Lindsey (Dan) Schofield, Casey Bowmer, Emma Bowmer and Abby Bowmer; and 6 great-grandchildren.


In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bowmer was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Gene Bowmer, on June 1, 1984; and 2 sisters, Helen Hunnicutt and Joyce Wilt.


A funeral ceremony will be conducted by Dortha Meredith at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 11 at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Entombment will follow in Earlham Mausoleum.


Family and friends may gather for visitation from 5-8 P.M. on Friday, April 10, at the funeral home.
