   Jason Carl Thurston, age 48, of Losantvile, Indiana, died August 5, 2023, at 6 a.m. at his home from a pulmonary embolism. He was born June 24, 1975, in Richmond, Indiana, the son of Ivan G. and Shirley Watson Thurston.

   After graduating from Centerville High School in 1993, he attended Ball State University for one year. In 1995 he earned HVAC credentials at ITT Technical Institute in Indianapolis. For many years, he has worked through the Local 440 Pipefitters Union, Indianapolis. His job assignments have taken him to Tennessee, Ohio, and the local areas.

   He was a member and strongly supported the Am Vets at Greens Fork. His sense of humor and gentle traits have won many friends. He was able to frankly share his insight with a winning smile and disagree without being disagreeable.

   He and Susan loved riding his motorcycle. They also loved attending the yearly Riley/Elsie Watson family reunion at Tellico Plains, TN. In 2012 they rode the 11 exhilarating miles of the Tail of the Dragon in southeastern TN.

   Jason’s Nicknames included Jaybird and Porkchop. His Uncle Dick enjoyed relating the Wagon Train event where Jason earned the Porkchop nickname.

   Jason was known for being the most loving “Unkie J” to Susan’s grandnephews and grandnieces – Jaxsen, Kayden, Hadley, and Lily.

   Jason will be missed by his companion partner, Susan Retter; mother, Shirley Thurston; brother, Paul (Tami) Thurston; nephew, Carter Thurston; 1st cousins Terri Thurston, Jeff Thurston, Jim Watson, Terren Ouellette, Ron Watson, Joey Watson, Amanda Jones, Shawn Watson, Destynee Watson, and numerous friends.

   He is preceded in death by his father, Ivan; uncles, Frank D. Thurston, Riley Watson, and Richard Watson; 1st cousins, Sandy Watson and Rick Watson.

   A memorial service for Jason will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 26 at the Smith-McQuiston & Webster Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City.

   Jason will rest near his father in Willow Grove Cemetery at Fountain City.
