Joe Newland

Joseph M. “Joe” Newland, Jr., 91, of Lynn, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2015.
   He was born April 8, 1923 in Hazard, Kentucky to Joseph M., Sr. and Margaret Pelfry Newland. He was a US Army veteran of World War Two. He was retired from Magaw Paving, where he did blacktop construction. He was a member of the First Church of Christ in Lynn and was a Mason for 52 years.
   Mr. Newland is survived by his wife, the former Eula Holbrook; daughter & son-in-law, Valeta & Dennis Bridgewater; daughter, Rochella Newland; sisters, Martha Newland and Mary McDaniel; and brother, James Newland.
   Mr. Newland was preceded in death by his parents, daughters, Roberta and Bureta Newland; son, Randall Newland; sisters, Jean Newland and Blanche Newland; and brother, Charlie Newland.
   A funeral ceremony will be conducted by Paul Nichols and Rev. Tom Ward at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 25 at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in New Liberty Cemetery.
   Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday and 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
