LaDema McDermitt, 84, formerly of the Whitewater community, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 15, at Ambassador Healthcare in Centerville.
She was born on January 31, 1938 near Williamsburg, Indiana to Hamilton & Henrietta A. Gregg Martin. She was a 1956 graduate of Jefferson High School in New Paris, Ohio. She married Lloyd McDermitt on June 2, 1956. They were blessed with 5 children.
LaDema attended the former Whitewater United Methodist Church and the Church by the Side of the Road in Middleboro. She retired from Alcoa after 30 years of service. She enjoyed growing flowers, quilting and embroidery.
LaDema will be missed by her husband of 66 years, Lloyd McDermitt; daughters, Sherry L. Vosmeier & husband, Robert, Diana L. McDermitt; daughter-in-law, Tracey Frame; sons, Philip W. McDermitt and Jerry A. McDermitt; 8 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, Faye Martin, Esther Schuler and Ruth Martin; brother, Victor Martin; and several nieces & nephews.
LaDema was preceded in death by her parents, son, Dennis R. McDermitt; sisters, Bernice Schlosser, Irene Saylor and Sharon Pearce; and brothers, Emmett Martin, John Martin, Denver Martin and Elvan Martin.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 25, at the funeral home.
Services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 25, at the Smith-McQuiston & Webster Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Williamsburg Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are encouraged for The Gift of Grace, c/o First Financial Bank, 3433 East Main Street, Richmond, IN 47374. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
