Larry Girdwood

Lauren David “Larry” Girdwood, 64, of Richmond, went home to join his Savior in the early hours of Thursday, September 26, 2013.
   Larry was born on December 6, 1948 in Owosso, Michigan, to Laurence Joseph and Marguerite Ann Dean Girdwood.
   Larry was a servant of the Lord and a champion of God’s word who made it his life’s work winning souls, building churches and developing leaders. He received his Bachelor of Sacred Literature degree from Great Lakes Christian College in 1971, his Master of Arts in Practical Ministry from Cincinnati Christian University in 1999 and also attended the Billy Graham School of Evangelism and Wheaton College. Larry’s lifelong ministry called him to serve Christian churches in Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa and Indiana. He was a minister of the Whitewater Christian Church at the time of his going home.
   Larry will be missed by his wife of 40 years, Phyllis Ashcraft Girdwood; two sons & daughters-in-law, David & Julie Girdwood of Plainfield, IL, and Michael & Sonya Girdwood, of Fort Thomas, KY; three grandchildren, Andrew, Alexa and Gabriel Girdwood; one sister & brother-in-law, Doris & Kenneth Richards of Jackson, MI; four brothers & sisters-in-law, Robert & Janet Girdwood of Berkley, MI; James & Laurel Girdwood of Grayson, KY; Wilfred & Marilynn Girdwood of Greenfield, IN; and Daniel & Jan Girdwood of Grand Rapids, MI; and several nieces & nephews.
   Larry was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Evelyn Girdwood.
   Troy Beckner, associate minister of Whitewater Christian Church, C. Gene McElroy and Randy Brady will unite to conduct a life celebration at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 30, at the Whitewater Christian Church, 7918 North State Road 227, Richmond, IN 47374.
   Family & friends may gather for visitation from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, September 29, and 10-11 a.m. on Monday, September 30, at the church.
