Lawrence Watters

Mr. Lawrence L. Watters, Jr., 83, passed away on Tuesday, March 11, at the Forest Park Health Campus in Richmond.


Born June 4, 1924 in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was the son of Lawrence Sr. and Carrie Morgan Watters. He graduated from Mt. Orb (Ohio) High School before being inducted into the US Army. He served in the European Theatre during World War Two, participating in campaigns to liberate the Ardennes, Central Europe, Northern France and the Rhineland. He returned home to attend Miller Business School in Cincinnati. He married the former Leila O'Dell on March 18, 1947. Their marriage was blessed with two children and spanned 48 years before her death on July 22, 1995.Mr. Watters was retired from the American Greeting Company and lived in the Fountain City and Richmond communities since 1992 and was formerly employed at Wal-Mart in Richmond. He attended the Fountain City Wesleyan Church and Fountain City United Methodist Church and enjoyed fishing when better health permitted.


Mr. Watters will be missed by his daughter, Cathy Watters, Richmond; son, Raymond Watters, Richmond; sister, Eva Flick, Cincinnati; brother, Jim Watters, Mt. Orb, Ohio; 2 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.


In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Watters was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Maxine Cole and Helda Watters; 2 brothers, Paul Watters and Joseph Watters.


A funeral ceremony will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Willow Grove Cemetery, with full military rites conducted by the Wayne County Honor Guard.


Family and friends may gather for visitation from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, March 14, at the funeral home.
