Louis R. “Lou” Baumer, 86, of Fountain City, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 18. Lou was born on February 23, 1940, in Richmond, Indiana, the son of Lawrence J. & Ruth Margaret Lawler Baumer. He was a 1958 graduate of Whitewater High School. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Math from Chadron State University in Nebraska, and earned his Master’s Degree from Ball State University.
Mr. Baumer was a teacher for 32 years, educating students at Randolph Southern High School, South Central High School and Northeastern High School. He was the varsity baseball coach at Northeastern for 8 years. He also coached junior high basketball and was an assistant basketball coach at Northeastern under Mr. Allen Hawkins.
Lou was a faithful member of the Webster United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee and board president, and attended St. Mary Catholic Church in Richmond.
Lou will be missed by his wife, the former Lois A. Curry, whom he married on June 15, 2002; daughter, Laura E. Dooley & husband, David; step-daughter, Jaclyn Calloway & husband, Scott; grandchildren, Kyle (McKenzie) Dooley, Alex Dooley, Sean Dooley, Dustin Spade, Jaxson Cowles and Weston Cowles; three great-grandchildren; sister, Roseanne (Bill) Blair; brother, Larry (Belinda) Baumer; and several nieces & nephews.
Lou was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Barbara J. Crowe and brother, Daniel T. Baumer.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, at the Smith-McQuiston & Webster Funeral Home.
Lou’s life will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 23, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in in Willow Grove Cemetery.
