Mark Moran, 69, passed away unexpectedly in his home on May 20, 2026.
Mark was part of The Woodshop for over 40 years. He wasn't merely an employee; he *was* the very heartbeat of the business, his spirit intertwined with every grain of wood and every carefully crafted joint. His mark is left on the projects that are scattered across the United States, each a testament to his unparalleled skill. Despite his extraordinary talents, Mark remained remarkably humble, rarely allowing the depth of his pride in his work to surface. The next time you encounter a beautifully crafted piece of furniture, rub your hand across it and think of Mark, he probably would have appreciated it as well.
Yet Mark's life, vibrant and full, extended far beyond the scent of sawdust and the hum of the workshop. He was a husband, a father, and grandfather. His enduring marriage with wife Robin was a cornerstone of his existence, a journey that would have celebrated its 48th wedding anniversary this coming August. Together, they didn't just build a home; they forged a life. It wasn’t always easy, but it was theirs.
Lake Cumberland became their happy place. It was there, amidst its calming waters, that they found strength, through the hard times. This special place holds so many memories with family, friends and their faithful dogs.
Mark found immense joy in supporting his children Ryan (Shelly) Moran and Randi (Michael) Whitehouse’s passions, whether on the sports field or in music throughout their school days. He was hard to miss. Normally he would have been the loudest one there.
His grandchildren were what truly illuminated his later years; he loved being a papaw. Nothing brought him greater joy than picking up Emily from practice, always ensuring a cool refreshment was ready for her on the long ride home. He cherished the hours spent in the Woodshop with his grandson Riley. And the stories about his granddaughters, Aurora and Elizabeth, never failed to make him laugh. While he loved his children dearly, he *liked* his grandchildren even more.
Mark also enjoyed having in his life his brother, Paul (Jenny) Moran, mother-in-law, Mabel Schweizer, brother-in-law, Rodney (Marie) Schweizer, and his 2 canine companions, Alex and Allie.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Charles and Dolores Moran, older brother Dennis Moran, father-in-law Harry Schweizer and brother-in-law Ronnie Schweizer.
In honor of Mark, please wear your favorite pair of old ratty work shoes, you know, the ones with grass stains on them, and a Hawaiian shirt. No reason to be uncomfortable at his viewing. On the way home roll the windows down and turn the music up. Play some Doobie Brothers to cheer up.
Visitation for Mark will be from 3-7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, at the Williamsburg Community Center Gym, 8500 North Centerville Road, Williamsburg, IN 47393. A celebration of Mark’s life will start at 7:00 p.m.
Mark’s unexpected passing brings with it some untimely expenses. As a memorial contribution, please consider donating to defray some of his final expenses.
