Mrs. Martha Jones, 88, formerly of Lynn, passed away at Millers Merry Manor in Marion, Indiana on Tuesday morning, March 25.
She was born in Monon, Indiana on June 20, 1936 to Paul R. & Verna J. Long Murray. In 1955, Martha won the title of Miss Lafayette. She went on to compete in the Miss Indiana Pageant, where she finished Third Runner-Up. She was united in marriage to Virgil “Pete” Jones on August 18, 1956. They were blessed with 2 sons and 60 years together before Pete’s death on November 18, 2016.
Mrs. Jones lived in the Lynn community most of her adult life. She was a member of the First Church of Christ in Lynn. She enjoyed a career as a secretary with Kemper Cabinets and was a Past President of the National Secretary Association. She was also an avid golfer when her health was better, and was Past President of the Winchester Women’s Golf Association.
Mrs. Jones will be missed by her sons, Mike Jones and his wife, Judy; Joe Jones and his wife, Arlana; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces & nephews.
Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers, Thomas P. Murray and James F. Murray.
Pastor Dale Bales will celebrate Mrs. Jones’ life at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 5 at the Smith-McQuiston & Webster Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment at a later date will follow in Quaker Lynn Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Family and friends may gather from Noon – 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, at the funeral home.
