Martin Ward

Martin E. Ward, 66, of Fountain City, passed away on Tuesday, July 7.

Martin was born in Greenville, Ohio on May 18, 1960, the son of Lawson E. Ward, Sr. & Launa Mae Caudle Ward. Martin graduated from Northeastern High School in 1978. He worked at the Lynn Elevator from 1978-1996 and helped out at Polley Farm Service for a while following the 1986 tornado. In 1995 he started driving trucks for other companies until 2016, when he bought his own dump truck and started Hoosier Highways LLC.

Martin was a fixture at Sam’s Place in Glen Karn, Ohio, where he helped everyone keep up with local news current events. He enjoyed deer hunting when better mobility permitted. He liked riding motorcycles and tinkering with cars. Martin also was an avid TV viewer of cowboy shows and car shows.

Martin will be missed by his siblings, Robert E. Ward Sr. & wife, Rebecca Ward; Lawson E. Ward, Jr. & wife, Barbara; Mike Burt & wife, Tina; Debbie Terhaar & husband, Bill; nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Martin was preceded in death by his mother, Launa Ward, in 1971; father, Lawson E. Ward, Sr., in 2003; his bonus mother, Ruth Bulmer Burt Ward, who joined his family when Martin was 11; and brother, John E. Ward, in 2022.

A funeral ceremony will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 13 at the Smith-McQuiston & Webster Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Willow Grove Cemetery in Fountain City.
