Michael D. Sheets

Michael D. Sheets, beloved husband, dad, brother, uncle, grandpa, and friend, was called home on April 3rd surrounded by family. He was 69.

Michael was born November 4th, 1955 at Reid Memorial Hospital, grew up in Fountain City and graduated from Northeastern High School, where he met his high school sweetheart, best friend and wife of 47 years, Rhonda (née Fields). He and Rhonda were married July 16, 1977 and called Richmond home. Michael loved Indiana high school basketball, the Cincinnati Reds, grilling barbecue chicken on the grill, and traveling. Michael and Rhonda enjoyed (multiple) trips to see ‘the kids’ in Southern California, and also Hawaii, the Bahamas, Alaska, and to the St. Lawrence Seaway and National Baseball Hall of Fame; a dream trip for Michael, with Rhonda in July 2024.

Serving others for Michael was a passion; he worked for more than 40 years in grocery stores first in Fountain City, then at Mike’s Finer Foods in Liberty, before Save-A-Lot in Richmond from which he retired.

In the last few years, Michael enjoyed attending Hopewell United Methodist Church with Rhonda while being with friends on Sundays he’d known (in some cases) for decades.

Michael is survived by his wife, Rhonda; their son Nathan and wife, Rebecca; grandchildren, Johanna and Nico of Richmond; brother, Kevin and sister Laurie, both of Fountain City; uncle Loren and wife Jeanne Vance of Richmond; brother-in-law Kenny and wife, Rosella Fields of Metamora; sister-in-law Yvonne and Robert Snyder of Richmond; many special cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Services will be held at Smith-McQuiston & Webster Funeral Home in Fountain City with the calling from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and funeral services starting at 1:30 p.m.
