James Michael "Mike" Ruger, 67, passed away Saturday, May 10, at his residence due to complications from Shingles.
He was born August 13, 1940, in Richmond, the son of Raymond "Pickle" and Margaret "Irish" Bair Ruger. He was a 1958 graduate of Richmond High School and attended business college. He served in the National Guard and was a member of American Legion Post 315 in Richmond. He was a former employee of AVCO and owner of Larkie's Bar. He was an over the road truck driver for over 20 years and enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.
Mike will be missed by his wife, the former Ella Phenis, to whom he was married July 27, 1989, daughters Raelynn Brand, of Woodstock, Georgia, Connie Davis, of Archer, Florida and Anita Fowler, of Richmond, sons Martin Ruger, of Richmond, Terry Smith, Shawn Smith and Curtis Smith, all of Richmond and Duane Burton, of New Castle, brother, Frederick "Fritz" Ruger and his wife, Janie, of Richmond, 17 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and nephews Jason Ruger and Eric Ruger.
Mike was preceded in death by his father in 1981, his mother in 1997, daughter, Wenonah Miller in 2002, son, Michael Ruger in 1983 and granddaughter, Michelle Ruger in 2007.
A funeral ceremony will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Elkhorn Cemetery.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 4-8 pm on Tuesday, May 13, at the funeral home.
