Miriam R. “Tonie†Sheard, 82, of Richmond, passed away at home on Sunday, November 24.
She was born April 10, 1931 in Vigo County, Indiana to Franklin and Lillian Roth Chant. She was united in marriage to James William “Bill†Sheard, Sr. on January 1, 1950. Together they raised four sons and shared 49 years of marriage until his death on February 28, 1999.
Mrs. Sheard lived in Wayne County most of her life. She and Bill co-founded Grandpa’s Farm Campground in 1964. They enjoyed square-dancing together and traveling around the country. She was a member of the Middleboro United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Sheard will be missed by her sons, James William Sheard, Jr. and his wife, Kathy; Tom Sheard and his wife, Linda; John Sheard; and Mark Sheard and his wife, Michelle; seven grandchildren, Stephanie Potts, Bill Sheard III, Matthew Sheard, Jack Sheard, Lisa Sheard, Jake Sheard and Amanda Sheard and five great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Sheard was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one grandchild, Ralph Sheard.
Rev. Fuzzy Lake will conduct a funeral ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 27, at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Goshen Cemetery.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 26, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the Middleboro United Methodist Church, 4620 North State Road 227, Richmond, IN 47374 or the Reid Foundation for Hospice Care, 1100 Reid Parkway, Richmond, IN 47374.
