Omer D. Johnting, 87, of Lynn, passed away Sunday, March 24, at his residence.
   He was born February 18, 1926 in Franklin County, Indiana to Ralph and Susie McKinney Johnting. He served in the 9th Armored Division of General George Patton’s Third Army during World War Two and participated in the campaigns to liberate the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He returned home and married the former Ruth A. Lux on May 1, 1947. They raised 5 children and shared 62 years of marriage before her death on June 16, 2009.  
   Mr. Johnting was a member of the First Church of Christ in Lynn. He worked his dairy farm most all of his life and was well-known in the local Amish community
   Mr. Johnting will be missed by his daughter, Kathy Wagner, of Winchester; daughters & sons-in-law, Linda & Dale Pease, of New Paris, OH; Teresa & John Chandler, of Richlands, NC; Becky & Mike Cantrell, of Bakersfield, CA; son & daughter-in-law, Bill & Deb Johnting, of Lynn; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren; sister, Violet Pilcher, of Englewood, OH; brothers & sisters-in-law, Ralph & Burnita Johnting, of Lynn and Kenny & Mary Johnting, of Lakeland, FL, and several nieces & nephews.
   In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Johnting was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Jim Wagner; sister, Vivian Gideon, and brothers Jim, Everett and Frank Johnting.
   Mr. Johnting’s family would like to express their gratitude to his Asceracare Hospice nurses, especially Elizabeth, Jennifer and Brandi.
   A funeral ceremony will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment with military rites will follow in Spartanburg Cemetery.
   Family & friends may gather for visitation from 2-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, at the funeral home.
