Pastor Arden Brooks Martin, 83, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Tuesday, February 27. His wife and family were by his side when he went to be with his Lord.
Brooks was born in Camden-on-Gauley, West Virginia on August 11, 1940, the son of Arden A. & Mamie Ann Woods Martin. Brooks entered the United States Marine Corps in 1962. He served 4 years in the Corps and was promoted up to Sergeant before his Honorable Discharge in 1966. He went on to become a minister in the Friends Church. He served congregations in Indiana, Illinois, Ohio and Michigan for 42 years, the last 16 years behind the pulpit at Arba Friends Meeting.
Brooks enjoyed sharing his dry humor and laughing with his family and friends. He enjoyed piecing jigsaw puzzles together and was a fan of the Cleveland Browns and The Ohio State University Football team. Brooks was also a Car Guy who was the proud owner of a 1960 Chevrolet, which he enjoyed showing at car shows and cruise-ins.
Brooks will be missed by his wife of 59 years, Louise E. Carlson Martin; daughter & son-in-law, Elise Anne & Blair Brittain; sons & daughters-in-law, Arden Christopher & Taunya Martin and Erik Scott & Jennifer Martin; 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and sister, Shonnett Venarge and several nieces & nephews.
Brooks was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Helen Druschal, Ardith Mancine, Coralie Baer and brothers, Gerald Woods and Edward Martin.
Public visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, March 1, at the Arba Friends Meeting, 10632 South Arba Pike, Lynn, IN 47355.
A graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Boston Heights, Ohio, at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 2. A United States Marine Corps Ceremonial Honors Detachment will render military honors.
