Paul Eales

Paul Eales, 87, passed away Sunday, May 18, at Reid Hospital.


He was born December 12, 1920, in Richmond, the son of William and Lorrena Maines Eales. He served in the US Army during World War Two. He was united in marriage to the former Elma Dunlap on November 2, 1945. They shared nearly 54 years together before her death on April 24, 1999.


Paul owned and operated Green Acres Truck Stop from 1951-1956 and the Fountainette in the early 1960's. He worked at Belden over 40 years, retiring as a mixer in 1982.


Paul loved to play music and go camping. He was a NASCAR fan and collected all types of die-cast cars and trucks.


Paul will be missed by his daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Bill Evans, Fountain City; grandchildren, Bruce (Lisa) Brown of Fountain City and Cindy (T.J.) Howard of Richmond; great-grandchildren Alyssa Mathews, Tyler Brown, Angel Glickman and Kirsti Vandeford; sisters Martha (Walter) Hopkins of Fountain City and Ruth (Clyde) Elliott of Richmond; brothers Bob Eales of New Paris, Ohio and Donald (Addie) Eales of Colorado; special nieces Norma Jean Johnson and Carol Judy, both of Fountain City; special sister-in-law Helen Kennedy of Fountain City; nieces and nephews, special close friends Paul Ewen of Fountain City and Hagar Eversole of Richmond, and his special companion of 9 years, "Buster".


Paul was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers, Raymond, Carl and Bill; sisters Jeanette Horrigan and Kate Bricker; and stepson James Kerr.


A funeral ceremony will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 21, at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Willow Grove Cemetery.


Family and friends may gather for visitation from 5-8 pm on Tuesday, May 20, at the funeral home.
