A. Ray Morefield, 70, of Williamsburg, passed away Sunday, May 13, at Reid Hospital.
He was born April 27, 1942 in Cobb Hill, Kentucky to Jesse and Bessie Gillespie Morefield. He moved to Wayne County in 1960 married Bonnie Collins on August 5, 1961. They raised 4 children and shared 41 years together before her death on July 31, 2003.
Mr. Morefield was retired from York, where he worked in the stamping plant. He was always active in the lives of his children and grandchildren and enjoyed working with cars and storytelling.
Mr. Morefield will be missed by his daughter, Vickie Seifer, of Williamsburg; sons, Tommy Morefield and his wife, Tammy, of Richmond; Danny Morefield and his wife, Theresa, of Boston and Jimmy Morefield, of Richmond; 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, Loretta Moore and Lil Bowman; 5 brothers, Jerry Morefield, Willie Morefield, Ed Morefield, Clay Morefield and Jerry Morefield and several nieces & nephews.
Mr. Morefield was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
A funeral ceremony will be conducted at 11:00 am on Friday, May 18, at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Williamsburg Cemetery.
Family & friends may gather for visitation from 5-8 pm Thursday, May 17, at the funeral home.
