Mrs. Ray Louise Wolfal, 74, passed away peacefully at her home at 2:32 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2009.


She was born December 27, 1934 in Equality, Illinois to Neal and Frances Parker Bryson. She married Donald M. Wolfal on November 3, 1951 and shared 48 years of marriage before his death on January 10, 2000. Ray was a homemaker was formerly employed at Ayr-Way and K-Mart. She was a babysitter in the Pershing area for 15 years before moving to Casa Grande, Arizona. She returned to Wayne County in 2000 following the death of her husband. Ray loved traveling, hiking in the mountains, gardening, reading and spending time with all of her family and friends.


Ray will be missed by her daughters, Sheryl Murphy, of Fountain City; Marlene Lambert, of Milton; her son and daughter-in-law, Donald R. and Lori Wolfal, of Richmond; 3 sisters, Dorothy Hewitt, of Harrisburg, Illinois; Velda and David Pierce, of Carmi, Illinois; Berneda Young, of Wickenburg, Arizona; 2 brothers, Neal and Shirley Bryson, of Shawneetown, Illinois and Emile and Lynn Bryson, of Jacksonville, Illinois; grandchildren, Amanda (Parks) and Gabe Patton, Jeremy and Ashley Parks, Jessica (Spink) and Robert Canty, Katalin Lambert, Josh and Shelley Wolfal, Erin Wolfal and Matt Grasse, Cody and Jackie Wolfal, Caleb and Jessica Wolfal, Donald Richard Wolfal and Jacob Wolfal; step-grandson, Dale Brooks; great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Sophia and Ava Patton, Robert and Awstun Parks, Jayson and Adrien Canty, Dillon and Kaylynn Wolfal, Angelina and Domnic Grasse, Mason and Jackson Wolfal, and 3 waiting to be born; step-great-grandchildren, Jake and Jared Razner, Taylor Grasse, and Trenton and Carter Brooks; several nieces, nephews, special friends and very special babysitting children.


Ray was preceded in death by a her parents, husband, daughter-in-law, LuAnn Smith Wolfal, in 1985; granddaughter, Corrie Lambert, in 1988; grandson, Joseph "Joey" Spink, in 2004; 5 sisters and 3 brothers.


A funeral ceremony will be conducted by Chaplain David Garman at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 26 at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will take place in Bethel Cemetery.


Family and friends may gather for visitation from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, September 25, at the funeral home.
