Rodney Lanter

December 12, 1961 — July 30, 2025

Rodney Wayne Lanter, 63, of New Paris, formerly of Fountain City, passed away Wednesday morning, July 30 at Franciscan Health Indianapolis.

Rodney was born December 12, 1961 in Wayne County, Indiana to Teddy Wayne & Yvonne Anderson Lanter. He was a 1980 graduate of Northeastern High School and attended IU East. He was a cowboy at heart. He spent much of his adult life team roping, rodeoing and attending rodeos. He loved spending time on his farm, where he raised bucking bulls. Rodney was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.

Rodney will be missed by his wife, Penny McDaniel Lanter, whom he married on Sept. 20, 1992; mother, Yvonne Lanter; brother, Reagan Lanter; sister-in-law, Kim Lanter; nieces & nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and his canine partners, Limley, Stitch and Jubilee.

Rodney was preceded in death by his father, Teddy Lanter in 2008; sister, Ranate Lanter Brock in 2012; brother, Robbie Lanter in 2020; sister-in-law, Jolene Lanter in 2011; mother-in-law, Bessie McDaniel in 2013 and father-in-law, Dave McDaniel in 2014.

A funeral ceremony will be conducted by Rev. Marty Holman at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 2, at the Smith-McQuiston & Webster Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City.

Family and friends may gather for visitation from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, August 2, at the funeral home.
