Ronnie Nicholson

Ronald K. “Ronnie” Nicholson, 77, of Fountain City, passed away on Tuesday, August 19, at Reid Health.

Ronnie was born on July 14, 1948, in Richmond, Indiana, the son of Frederick Earl & Helen Lucille Jacobsen Nicholson. He was a 1966 graduate of Whitewater-Fountain City High School. Ronnie married the former Diane Voiles 57 years ago on May 18, 1968, and they were blessed with 4 children.

Ronnie formerly worked at Eaton Gear. He entered the US Army on January 5, 1969. He served a tour of duty as an infantryman in Vietnam and was honorable discharged on January 5, 1971. He worked much of his adult life at Dana, from where he retired. He also worked part-time over the years for Bob Plankenhorn, Sherman Stamper and Tony Foster when each owned the filling station at Main Street and US 27. Ronnie loved to fish and enjoyed going to visit the casinos and watching tractor pulls. He always went to the Darke County Fair to watch the tractor pulls. Ronnie was proud of his status as a veteran and never missed an opportunity for a free meal on Veterans Day.

Ronnie will be missed by his wife, Diane; children, Kim Shepherd (Shawn), Amy Nicholson (Chip), Brian Nicholson (Sara) and Craig Nicholson (Angie); 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, brothers, Donald Nicholson, David Nicholson and Darrell Nicholson, and nieces & nephews.

Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, 2 great-grandchildren and one brother, Richard A. “Dick” Nicholson.

Visitation for Ronnie will be from 12-2 p.m. on Friday, August 22, at the Smith-McQuiston & Webster Funeral Home, 321 South US 27, Fountain City.

Services will be held at the funeral home at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 22. Interment with military rites will follow in Willow Grove Cemetery.
