Mrs. Ruth L. Hutchens, 89, of Richmond, passed away Sunday, December 4 at the home of her grandson.
She was born October 29, 1922 in Fountain City, Indiana to Ralph and Alice Pursley Austin. She was united in marriage to Cedric L. Hutchens on April 10, 1942.
Mrs. Hutchens retired from Alcoa after 31 years of service. She enjoyed traveling, knitting and sewing.
Mrs. Hutchens is survived by her husband of 69 years, Cedric; daughter, Mary Jo VanWinkle, of Englewood, Florida; daughter-in-law, Naomi Larose, of Fountain City; grandchildren, Rob Hutchens, Christina Wright and Donna Morefield; great-grandchildren, Ashley Hutchens, Chelsea Hutchens, Robbie Hutchens, Carissa Wright, Hayley Wright, Dylan Morefield, Cody Morefield and Jesse Morefield; great-great-grandchildren, Riley, Maelyn and Madison; sister-in-law, June Austin, of Fountain City; and 4 nephews.
Mrs. Hutchens was preceded in death by her parents, son, Donald Gene Hutchens; 2 brothers, Francis Austin and Robert Austin; and 1 niece.
A funeral ceremony will be conducted by Pastor David Anderson at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 8, at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Willow Grove Cemetery.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 4-6 pm on Wednesday, December 7, at the funeral home.
