Shirley Cravens

Shirley J. Cravens, 85, of Richmond, passed away at Reid Health on Wednesday, April 16.

She was born on August 27, 1939 in Connersville, Indiana, to Edward L. & Magaline M. Beard Williams.

Mrs. Cravens formerly worked at Huffy Mfg. before taking a position at Marvel Industries, from where she retired. She was formerly a UAW union representative. Mrs. Cravens was devout Christian and a member of Oak Park Pentecostal Church. When her health was better, she found great joy singing in the church choir. She loved to sew and was a proud supporter of the music programs of Richmond Community Schools, Richmond Symphony Orchestra and Earlham College.

Mrs. Cravens will be missed by her children, Jeannie Brookshear & husband, Neal, James “Bucky” Cravens, Jr., Jerry Cravens & wife, Kim, Jacque Rauch & husband, Dana, Carla Evans and companion, Todd Rees; sister, Brenda Dobeck; brother, Ronald Williams; grandchildren, Hannah Cravens, Sadie Mullins Clark (Toby), Jacob Mullins, Brandon Rauch, Christopher Rauch (Jessie), Zachary Booso (Hillary), Reilly Collins, Kaylee Collins, Cody Brookshear (Lori), Megan Brookshear, Chase Brookshear (Amber); great-grandchildren, Sawyer, Hazel, Corinne, Ethan, John, Oliver, Katrina, Eleanore, Benjamin and Dallas; and several nieces & nephews.

Mrs. Cravens was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James L. Cravens in 1986; sister, Janet Adams and brothers, Johnny Williams, Marvin Williams, Larry Williams, Gary Williams and Morris McClain.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. – Noon on Saturday, April 26, at the Smith-McQuiston & Webster Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. A funeral service will begin at Noon, followed by interment in Goshen Cemetery

Memorial contributions are encouraged for the Richmond Community Schools Music Department, 380 Hub Etchison Parkway, Richmond, IN 47374.
