Tom Greeson

Thomas L. Greeson, 93, of Fountain City, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home and in the presence of his family on Saturday morning, May 31.

Tom was born on October 31, 1931, in his family’s home in Union County, Indiana to Walter E. & Elizabeth L. Conner Greeson. He was a 1949 graduate of Short High School and remained active as the oldest member of the Alumni Committee until his death. He married the former Helen R. Curry on October 1, 1952. Their union of nearly 73 years was blessed with three children.

Tom served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952-56 and was stationed in Mississippi, Maine and Canada during his time in uniform. He entered Miami University at Oxford, OH in 1956. He managed to earn his Bachelors Degree in just three years and graduated in 1959, balancing school with a job working nights at Kroger while adding two children to his young family and teaching Sunday School. He continued to pour himself into his family by attending and supporting his children and grandchildren in their activities as they grew up.

Tom enjoyed a long career as an electrical salesman. He designed and implemented electrical systems for commercial and residential clients as well as projects for family and friends. He was proud of his involvement in lighting up Richmond’s Madonna of the Trail in Glen Miller Park.

Tom was an active member of Greenwood, Fountain City and Chester United Methodist Church until Chester Heights closed, including board member, youth counselor and assistant driver of God’s Nightcrawler. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Liberty, Fountain City and finally Whitewater Masonic Lodge #159.

Tom & Helen enjoyed being active in Hoosier Corners Square Dance Club and traveling around the country. They enjoyed spending many winters in Florida and often took weekend trips to the Little Nashville Opry and Bear Creek Farms. They enjoyed many family vacations, Smoky Mountains, Michigan mushroom hunting, Sea World and 50th Anniversary Bahamas cruise.

Tom will be missed by his wife, Helen; children, Lou Ann Terhaar & husband, Daryl, Ron Greeson & wife, Susan, Susan Titus & husband, Troy; grandchildren, Jeff Terhaar, Jennifer (Brook) Crist, Jacob (Nicole) Terhaar, Hillary Greeson, Todd Titus and Julia Titus; great-grandchildren, Hudson and Quinlyn; and several nieces and nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Carolyn May Borradaile; brothers, Robert E. Greeson, William F. Greeson, Walter Leroy “Roy” Greeson and Raymond Edgar Greeson.

Visitation for Tom will be from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 5, at the Smith-McQuiston & Webster Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. A Masonic Service will begin at 7:00 p.m. following visitation.

A funeral ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 6, at the funeral home. Interment with military rites will follow in Sims-Brier Cemetery in Union County.
