Mr. Thomas Pierce, 80, of Fountain City, joined his wife Dottie in eternal rest on Wednesday morning, May 21.
Tom was born on November 7, 1944, in Richmond, Indiana to Rastis Woodrow & Edith Gertrude Wilson Pierce. He moved to the Fountain City area in the mid-1950s and attended Whitewater High School. Tom married the former Dorothy “Dottie” Kay Wise on January 1, 1965. They were blessed with three children and 50 years of marriage before her death on April 15, 2015.
Tom was always a hard worker who had a big heart. He formerly worked at Huffy in Richmond before accepting a job at Perfect Circle in Richmond. When necessary, he would drive to plants in Northern Indiana and Michigan, work there through each week and come home on weekends. He did this for several years until he was eligible for retirement. He later became a chauffeur for area Amish families, serving that community for 17 years.
Tom formerly served as a Reserve Town Marshal for Fountain City. For 11 years, he coached his sons and their Little League and Pony League baseball teams. He stepped up be his grandson’s Buddy on the Field in the Miracle League. Tom always enjoyed being around anything with an engine, including Street Outlaws, Xfinity Series, NASCAR and classic cars and muscle cars. He liked to take an occasional cruise around the countryside in his Saleen Mustang.
Tom was a member of the Fountain City Church of Christ, where he was baptized a couple of years ago.
Tom will be missed by his daughter, Jennifer Goodwin; son & daughter-in-law, Scott & Robbin Pierce; son & daughter-in-law, Chris Pierce & Melinda Jones; grandchildren, Parker (Makenzie) Pierce, Hannah (Zach) Powers, Emma Pierce, Kasey Jo (Brady) Adams, Kylie Jo (Dylan) Thorpe, Collin Thomas Goodwin and Jacob Christopher Goodwin; great-grandsons, Hudson and Asher; great-granddaughter, Rory (due in 3 more months) and several nieces & nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Dottie, sister, Barbara Anderson; and brothers, Dolphus “Doc” Pierce, Arvis Pierce and James Pierce.
Tom’s life will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28, at the Smith-McQuiston & Webster Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Willow Grove Cemetery.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, at the funeral home.
