Valeta Bridgewater, 69, of Richmond, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, September 23, at The Springs of Richmond.
Valeta was born on February 23, 1956, in Randolph County, Indiana to Joseph M., Sr. & Eula Holbrook Newland. She was a 1974 graduate of Randolph Southern High School and later attended IUPUI.
Valeta formerly worked as a billing clerk at American Water Works. She later worked for the Indiana BMV and formerly worked in the photo labs of Walmart and Meijer. Valeta was a faithful member of the Whitewater Christian Church, where she was a member of the Dulcimer Choir. She enjoyed reading and loved animals, especially horses and dogs. She was the loving dog parent of her canine companion, Opie
Valeta will be missed by her husband of 39 years, Dennis Bridgewater, whom she married on September 21, 1986; as well as several cousins and her church family.
Valeta was preceded in death by her parents, infant twin sisters, Roberta and Bureta Newland; brother, Randall Newland; sister, Rochella Newland; and canine companions Roxie and Pepper.
Valeta’s request was to be privately buried in Willow Grove Cemetery in Fountain City.
