Vernie Hill

December 2, 1934 — August 18, 2008

Lavern "Vernie" Hill, 73, passed away Monday, August 18 in Knoxville, Tennessee.


He was born December 2, 1934 in Randolph County, Indiana, the son of Walter and Irene Moody Hill. He was united in marriage on June 11, 1955 to the former Nancy Trew, a union which was blessed with 3 children.


Vernie farmed for much of his life before taking a job with Richmond Gas Company, where he retired in 1991 after 34 years of employment. He was a faithful member of the Lynn, Richmond and Winchester Nazarene Churches, active in many areas. He collected Hot Wheels, NASCAR and John Deere die cast. He enjoyed fishing and wintering in Florida.


Vernie will be missed by his wife, Nancy; daughter Becky Zornes and husband Gary, of Kenmore, Washington; sons David Hill and wife, Brenda, and Tim Hill, all of Winchester; his brother Bill Hill and wife, Edith, of Fountain City, and nieces and nephew, brother-in-law Bill Trew and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joyce and Charles McDonald, all of Fountain City; 5 grandchildren, Stephanie Talbott, Josh Hill, Chasity Hill, Jessica Hill and Jacob Hill, and 5 great-grandchildren.


Vernie was preceded in death by his parents.


Family and friends may gather for visitation from 2-7 p.m. on Saturday, August 23, with a funeral service to be held following visitation at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City.
