Walter Sparks, Jr., 79, passed away peacefully on Friday night, December 1, at Brickyard Golden Living in Richmond.
He was born in Richmond, Kentucky on December 19, 1943, the son of Walter Sparks, Sr. and Dixie Hoover Sparks Schankel.
Walter served honorably in Germany with the US Army, where he was assigned to Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 33rd Armor Regiment of the 7th US Army.
Walter was a faithful employee of the City of Richmond from 1983-2007. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, playing card games and Bingo. He also enjoyed the company of his 4-legged friends over the years.
Walter is survived by his wife, the former Martha Lee Case Bromagem; stepdaughter, Lora Bromagem; grandchildren, Phillip Himelick & wife, Terri, Meggan Norwood & husband, Virgle, Mark Himelick & wife, Brittany, Lindsey Allison & husband, James, and Jordan Bromagem; great-grandchildren, Riley, Muna, Aurora, Zara, Emyra, Lennox, Toby, Ella, Hannah, Ethan, Emma and Bryson; daughter-in-law, Sue Mullins Bromagem.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, stepson, Richard Bromagem; great-granddaughter, Lilly Himelick; sisters, Barbara Diehl and Janie Taylor; and brother, Barry Sparks.
Walter was laid to rest in Willow Grove Cemetery in accordance with his wishes.
Walter’s family extends their gratitude to AsceraCare Hospice, nurses Rebecca and Tarah, and Dr. Meckley for the care they provided him.
