William Holecheck

March 14, 1915 — September 23, 2010

William "Bill" Holecheck, 95, of Richmond, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 23, at his home.


He was born March 14, 1915 in Stager, Illinois to Wendall and Mary Zagicek Holecheck. He married the former Treva "Toots" Burge on August 3, 1935. They raised 5 daughters on their farm and shared 72 years of marriage before her death on June 25, 2008.


Mr. Holecheck was a U.S. Army veteran who served during the closing days of World War Two. He worked a total of 38 years for Dille-McGuire, later Huffman Corp, before retiring as a supervisor. He enjoyed hunting, working around his farm and tinkering in his barn. He survived many incidents and accidents throughout his long and colorful life.


Mr. Holecheck will be missed by his daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Richard Pegg, of Winchester; Nancy Hill, of New Whiteland; Judi and Jay Price, of Lynn; Sandy and George Haskett, of Richmond and Sharon Hummel, of Franklin; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, 1 sister, Henrietta North, of Boynton Beach, Florida; 1 brother, Frank Holecheck and his wife, Ada Maxine, of Richmond and several nieces and nephews.


Mr. Holecheck was preceded in death by his parents, wife, grandson, Tim Sadler; great-granddaughter, Nikki Hart and sister, Mary Blumke.


Rev. Phil Hodgkin will conduct a funeral ceremony at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, September 27 at the Smith & McQuiston Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Goshen Cemetery.


Family & friends may gather for visitation from 3-7 p.m. Sunday, September 26 at the funeral home.
