Obituary

   Mr. Gary G. Gentry, 82, passed away on Friday, January 8, at Randolph Nursing Home in Winchester, Indiana.

   He was born on July 30, 1938, in Hamilton, Ohio. Gary retired as a manager with Kroger after 30 years of service and later worked for FedEx. He played bass guitar for The Gentry Brothers Band with his brothers. The talented Brothers recorded several records and had the opportunity to meet and play live music with popular artists including George Jones, Hank Williams Jr. and Little Jimmy Dickens. They are now listed in the Rockabilly Hall of Fame for their contribution to the musical genre with their original song "Swanky" recorded in 1961.

  Gary was very dedicated to his family. He always maintained a high level of optimism and enjoyed making others laugh. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed watching sports on TV.

  Gary will be missed by his children, Jana Chestnut, Dana Chasteen & her husband, Darby, Dawn Gentry, Dale Gentry and Rodney Gentry; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and a brother, Larry Gentry.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Gentry and Verna VanWinkle Samms; wives, Linda Sasser Gentry and Judith Gethers Gentry, son, Tim Gentry; brother, Dale Gentry. 

  Private services for Gary will be conducted a 1:00 pm on Tuesday, January 12, at the Smith-McQuiston & Webster Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Willow Grove Cemetery.

  Friends and family are invited to attend via the Smith-McQuiston & Webster Funeral Home Facebook page beginning at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, January 12.
